Frequently Asked Questions
Estate planning can feel overwhelming. Here are clear, honest answers to the questions families ask most often.
Why do I need an estate plan if I'm not wealthy?
Estate planning isn't about how much money you have. It's about making sure the people you love are protected if something happens to you. A clear plan lets you name guardians for your children, decide who receives your belongings, and spare your family from court delays and confusion during an already difficult time.
What's the difference between a will and a trust?
A will directs who receives your property after you pass away, but it usually goes through probate, a court process that can take time and money. A trust can help your family avoid probate entirely, keep things private, and manage assets more smoothly. During our planning session, we'll talk through your situation and recommend what fits your family best.
How much does estate planning cost?
Great question! You can learn more about our fees by watching our free training, The Estate Planning Clarity Masterclass, or by booking a 1:1 Peace of Mind Planning Session with Laura. Our packages start at $2,000 and go up depending on the level of complexity you need.
What is the Peace of Mind Planning Session?
It's a private 45-minute Zoom call with Laura where we talk through your family, your wishes, and what matters most. You'll leave with a clear recommendation, a flat-fee quote, and a personalized Family Protection Blueprint. The fee is applied toward any work you do with us. It's a working session, not a sales pitch.
What happens during the free masterclass?
The masterclass is a 40-minute on-demand session that walks you through what every family actually needs in an estate plan, the difference between a will and a trust, how to keep your home out of probate, and what our flat-fee packages include. It's a great starting point if you want to learn before booking a one-on-one session.
Can we do everything virtually?
Yes. The Peace of Mind Planning Session and the Blueprint Call are held over Zoom. The signing celebration can happen at home or in our office at 125 Park Avenue, whichever is easier for you. We work with families across New York who prefer the convenience of virtual meetings.
How long does the process take?
Most plans are completed within a few weeks from start to finish. It depends on how quickly you can provide information and how many revisions we make together. We keep the process moving so your family isn't left waiting with an unfinished plan.
What if I already have a will from years ago?
That's a great start. Life changes, though. If you've moved, had children, changed marriages, or acquired new assets, your old documents may no longer reflect your wishes. We offer annual plan reviews and updates to make sure your plan keeps up with your life.
Do you work with parents of young children?
Absolutely. Naming guardians and making sure your children are cared for by the people you trust is often the most important part of an estate plan for parents. We build family protection plans specifically designed to give parents of minor children real peace of mind.
How do I get started?
The easiest next step is to watch the free masterclass or book a Peace of Mind Planning Session. Both give you a clear picture of your options without pressure. When you're ready, we'll walk you through every step from there.
